A man wearing a bulletproof vest and helmet stabbed at least five people sitting on the terrace of a cafe outside a mosque in northwestern Turkey, broadcasting the incident live on his social media account on Monday.
The 18-year-old suspect, armed with a long knife, broadcast the alleged video game-inspired attack on the mosque in the city of Eskişehir live on X before police arrested him, local media reported.
He was arrested by security forces before he caused further harm to people in the area.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç said the incident was currently under investigation.
He identified the suspect as AK and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“The attacker was dressed like a character from a game, with an axe on his hip, a bulletproof vest and a helmet, his face was masked,” the Eskişehir Durum website reported.
Pictures he took of himself show that he was wearing protective goggles over his mask, completely covering his face.
The attacker neither shouted nor expressed any motive for his actions, but was reportedly “influenced by war games.”
