It was a busy day for Linn County Commissioners Roger Nyquist, Sherrie Sprenger and Will Tucker to open bids during their Aug. 20 meeting.
The commission accepted bids for the 7th Avenue Medical Building rooftop project in Albany and the construction of an RV parking facility for the Parks Department in Sweet Home. There were eight bidders for each project.
Staff will now review the tenders to determine whether they have met all eligibility criteria and will then make a further recommendation to the Commissioners on the award of the tender at their meeting on 27 August.
The following bids were accepted for the Parks & Recreation Department’s RV disposal facility in Sweet Home: Knife River, Tangent, $690,791; JBX, Crawfordsville, $695,662; Wildish Construction, Eugene, $722,000; North Santiam Paving, Stayton, $798,300; Riverbend Construction, Eugene, $817,000; Pacific Excavation, Eugene, $942,000; Conway Construction, Vancouver, Washington, $958,660; Jesse Rodriguez Construction, Silverton, $1,292,425.
Bids for the 7th Avenue Medical Building roofing project were: Roof Toppers, Vancouver, Washington, $244,685; Axiom Roofing, Portland, $267,696; Umpqua Roofing Company, Eugene, $272,700; McDonald and Wetle, Portland, $279,000; Evergreen Roofing of Oregon, Eugene, $295,818; ABC Roofing, Portland, $398,402; Green Pointe Design & Construction, Beaver Creek, $461,198.25; West Coast Roofing & Building, Salem, $523,850.
In other matters, the Commissioners decided:
- In July there were 90 deaths and 71 births – 34 girls and 37 boys. Of the 90 deaths, 41 were female and 49 were male. Dr Adam Brady said tobacco use played a role in 18 of the deaths, alcohol in five deaths, diabetes in 14 deaths and drugs in one death. There were three suicides in July, the people were between 17 and 59 years old. There were three new cases of HIV.
- Approved the release of a lien on a property used as collateral for a Council of Governments loan in 1997. The loan has long been repaid, but the records were lost and the owners now want to sell the property. Treasurer Michelle Hawkins said she has been working with the COG and County Clerk staff to fix the problem.
- Appointed Treasurer Michelle Hawkins as the county budget officer and new assessor Matt Pitcher as the county tax collector.
- Don Wirth was appointed to the Noxious Weed Control Advisory Committee.
- Approved text amendments to the Code to update and clarify road construction and access standards and to align some standards with the Oregon Fire Code.
- A public hearing approved a zoning amendment for 4.38 acres at 4975 Santiam Highway within the Albany Urban Growth Area. Commissioners approved changing the designation from Urban Growth Area – Urban Growth Management to Urban Growth Area – Limited Industrial. This will allow owner Ron Brockman to build an RV storage business on the property that does not require the city’s water or sewer services. If the city expands such services to the area in the future, Brockman could connect to those services and potentially change the type of business located there.
