New Jersey man leads cops on 120 mph chase through Vero Beach

A New Jersey man is accused of recklessly driving into oncoming traffic, weaving between cars, ignoring red lights and even passing a school bus in Vero Beach. The chase was caught on video.

On August 16, at 2:14 p.m., the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) reported that a deputy reported the sport bike traveling at an estimated speed of 115 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone on State Road 60 near the Vero Beach Outlets. The deputy turned on the radar and the speeder was clocked at 120 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, sheriff’s deputies and Vero Beach police on the ground pursued the fleeing driver – identified as Austin Schwartz. The IRCSO HAWK helicopter was able to track Schwartz from the air.

The video shows Schwartz speeding through traffic and turning onto busy roads during rush hour, endangering many other motorists, the sheriff’s office said.

The pursuit finally ended when the suspect’s motorcycle struck the side of a truck at the intersection of 17th Street and Indian River Boulevard, causing an accident.
