On Saturday, August 24, an honor ride was held from the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office to David DeLaittre Memorial Park to remember and honor the sacrifice of Trooper David DeLaittre and Deputy Mason Moore.
“I appreciate that people still remember and honor all of our fallen officers,” said Denny DeLaittre, David’s father.
Denny was at the memorial park before the cyclists arrived, preparing food and setting up the park. Denny says he comes to the memorial park almost every day.
On December 1, 2010, 23-year-old police officer David DeLaittre was shot and killed during a traffic stop near Three Forks Airport.
“He had only been on patrol for a few years,” DeLaittre said, “I knew how dangerous it was for him and I was worried about him.”
Dozens of cyclists and community members gathered at Memorial Park after the ride to talk about the importance of remembering our fallen officers.
Ellen Pierson, COO of the national nonprofit organization Honor Roll, emphasized the importance of cycling and drew attention to smaller organizations.
Pierson presented Denny with a check for the David DeLaittre Memorial Park.
“The most important thing is that I know there are good people out there and there are people who will not be forgotten,” Denny said. “That’s my main purpose with the park: to honor our fallen police officers.”
