Lansing Area: Heat warning and severe storms hit Michigan’s Lansing: Over 16,000 people without power, weather warnings in effect

Meteorologists have a Heat warning for a heatwave in late summer Lansing areawith temperatures just above 30 degrees and humidity feeling like 40 degrees, according to the Lansing State Journal.
Severe storms expected, which could cause damaging winds, heavy rain and large hail. The heat warning will remain in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Power outages and damage reports
By Tuesday 6pm over 16,100 Utility customers The Lansing area was without power due to fast-moving storms that knocked down numerous trees and power lines. The Ingham County Emergency Management Agency warned of possible more storms overnight and cautioned motorists. They also warned not to move fallen trees because live power lines could be present.
According to Consumers Energy’s outage map, nearly 11,500 customers were without power in Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties. The Lansing Board of Water & Light reported over 3,100 outages, while DTE Energy reported about 1,600 customers without power in eastern Ingham County. There was significant tree damage throughout the region.
As of 5:25 p.m., approximately 14,500 utility customers in Lansing were affected.
Consumers Energy later reported that more than 8,000 customers in the greater Lansing area were without power. The Lansing Board of Water & Light reported more than 2,700 outages before 5 p.m.
In addition, Tri-County Electric Cooperative reported more than a dozen outages in rural areas around Lansing, and DTE Energy reported about 100 outages in the Williamston area.
Weather warnings issued
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Ingham County at 4:27 p.m. and lasted until 5:30 p.m. Severe thunderstorms moving east at 40 mph will bring wind gusts up to 70 mph and penny-sized hail.
At 4:20 p.m., another warning was issued for Barry and Eaton counties, with 40 mph gales and wind gusts up to 60 mph. A severe weather warning was issued for Ingham and Jackson counties at 4:10 p.m., which also includes 21 other counties by 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service had issued a severe weather warning for Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ionia and 16 other counties until 8 p.m.
Temperatures in Lansing reached nearly 90 degrees Monday afternoon and felt like 95 degrees with high humidity. Lows overnight were expected to be just above 70 degrees.
East Lansing Residents have been advised to seek shelter at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center or the East Lansing Public Library during the heat advisory. Both facilities have extended hours to accommodate people seeking assistance.
Temperatures are expected to remain high throughout the week, with highs in the 30s on Wednesday and lows of 27 on Thursday and Friday. Showers or thunderstorms are possible each day, especially on Wednesday. The warm weather will continue into the weekend, with highs in the 27s and nighttime temperatures cooling to 15 to 15 degrees.
