The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Star Rory Kinnear talks about his upcoming version of Tom Bombadil.
Speaking to GamesRadar, Kinnear talked about why he isn’t surprised that it took so many adaptations for Tom Bombadil to appear on screen, and what his upcoming appearance in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for the character. “Of course, over several seasons on television, You have more time to investigate these storiessaid Kinnear. “The way (showrunners) JD (Payne) and Patrick (McKay) tell the story, they can create a role for him that is not necessarily what he has in the books. So while they are using this character, They use it in a different way than Tolkien did.”
They do use this character, but in a different way than Tolkien.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Star Daniel Weyman, who plays the mysterious wizard known as The Stranger in the hit series, also commented on what the series’ version of Tom Bombadil will look like, particularly in comparison to the way the character was portrayed in JRR Tolkien’s original works. “Even though he may not be present in every scene in the books, he’s actually always there because he’s so extraordinary,” Weyman explained. “He kind of keeps you company on his journey through the books, and I think that’s the great thing about Tom on this journey for The Stranger. His presence is so extraordinary that even when you’re not with him, he’s kind of in your thoughts because of his interactions with him.”
Tom Bombadil made his debut in “The Adventures of Tom Bombadil”
Tom Bombadil first appeared in Tolkein’s poem “The Adventures of Tom Bombadil,” which preceded The Lord of the Rings‘ first edition by over a decade. The character Tom Bombadil is considered by many to be the most powerful in the entire franchise, as his mystical abilities seem to truly know no bounds. This has been proven not only by Tom Bombadil’s various heroic deeds, but also by some of his most mundane moments, including when he played a game of sleight of hand with the One Ring while being completely immune to its powers and influence. Kinnear’s appearance as Tom Bombadil marks the character’s very first appearance in a live-action production of The Lord of the Rings.
Other important developments include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has a storyline ready for viewers in the second season that deals with the origins and rise of the Dark Lord Sauron. Co-showrunner and executive producer Patrick McKay recently spoke about the reasons why this particular plot from the first season of The Rings of Power second. “Yes, at some point we were going to put some of that material into Season 1, but we felt the story would benefit even more if we saved it for the beginning of Season 2,” McKay said. “So yes, we knew that backstory and we always had a plan for the overall, high-level development of the characters and storylines.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 is currently available to stream on Prime Video. Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on August 29.
