The black bars may look cinematic, but Star Wars Outlaws is a game. Let’s play it like one.
The ultimate enemy in Star Wars Outlaws is neither the Sith nor the might of the Empire, but the black bars that the developers decided to use to make the game more “cinematic.” Here’s how to turn them off.
How to turn off the black bars – Star Wars Outlaws
To turn off the black bars, you need to perform the following steps in the menus:
- Open the main menu
- Select Settings
- Select video
- Go to the fifth option “Cinematic Display Mode”
- Change it from “21:9” to “Full Screen”.
That’s fixed the black bars for you. Now there are a few other things you should change while you’re in the menus. First, since 21:9 automatically has a wider field of view than the “fill screen” option, you should change this to compensate for some slight shrinkage.
Go to the Gameplay menu and scroll down to the “Visual” section. From there, change the “View Angle” and “View Angle When Aiming” to your liking. For most games, I usually like around 100-110 for the former, but you’ll want your angle to be tighter when shooting, so keep that in mind.
Now go back to the main Settings menu and select Graphics. While we’re at it, let’s clean up a few distracting elements. First, go to Chromatic Aberration and turn that option off. This is just a type of color distortion that never looks good. If you’re in the 2% of the population that likes it, feel free to leave it on.
Next, you can turn the intensity of Motion Blue all the way down. As I said, I’m not a huge fan of motion blur and don’t know anyone who really likes the muddy effect it creates on their screen. And finally, film grain. This is really a matter of personal preference. My own preferences change from game to game depending on how it’s implemented, but I like how Snowdrop Engine handles it. You can always turn it off if you want.
And that’s it. The black bars are gone and hopefully you’ve eliminated a little bit of visible noise that doesn’t add much to the overall look. If you want more useful guides, be sure to check out our Star Wars Outlaws page.
