Big Sky Resort in Montana has eliminated additional fees for access to the Lone Peak Tram from its day and pre-purchased lift tickets.
Starting next winter, lift tickets at Big Sky Resort will include unlimited access to the newly improved Lone Peak Tram. With a lift ticket in hand, you can ride the massive tram as many times as you like, a departure from the previous schedule.
In 2021, the resort decoupled lift tickets and tram access, charging skiers a fee per use – in addition to their separate lift ticket purchase – to control skier and snowboard traffic on Lone Mountain. This approach has now been eliminated.
However, the Lone Peak Tram still has separate fees that are not related to lift tickets. Ikon, Mountain Collective and select Big Sky pass holders can still use the Lone Peak Tram with the automatic fee. Big Sky estimates that these fees will cost between $10 and $40, depending on demand. Scenic rides will be offered at a lower price.
Two season pass types offer different levels of tram access. The Gold season pass includes unlimited tram access and costs $2,400. The Double Black season pass includes 25 rides on the ski or snowboard tram and costs $2,200.
“The new tram has exceeded our expectations in every way. We promised to reevaluate the tram experience every year and this move provides flexibility and value to our product line while providing more guests access to Lone Peak,” said Troy Nedved, general manager of the resort.
Big Sky will continue to monitor skier and snowboard traffic to avoid overcrowding on Lone Mountain.
Big Sky lift tickets are now available and if you choose to go at the beginning or end of the season, they are not overly expensive. At the time of this writing, tickets are available for as little as $56 in early December and late April. However, tickets during busier times can get expensive, sometimes costing over $200. Most are between $100 and $200.
Even though lift tickets and tram access are bundled together, we recommend looking into multipass options for skiers. Depending on how much you plan to ski during the season, a multipass may be the best way to save money.
The planned opening date of Big Sky Resort for winter 2024/2024 is November 27, 2024.
