Life after Tony Pollard is getting more and more difficult for the Dallas Cowboys. Ezekiel Elliott was brought back for a bye, but let’s be honest, his performance this summer was pretty disappointing. Can Dallas rely on him to handle the RB1 workload for this team? No way.
As things stand, Elliott and Rico Dowdle appear to be the best running backs for this roster, and Deuce Vaughn is also in the mix. But will Dallas soon sign another veteran to back up Dak Prescott? That could be the case, as the Cowboys will have former Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook visiting:
Cook is still in free agency and looking for a new home. In the video posted by Pelissero, you can see that Cook is in incredible shape and looks as ripped as ever. When he played for the Minnesota Vikings, he was one of the best RBs in the game.
However, Cook’s best years are in the past, which we will see in 2023. He spent time with the Ravens and Jets and appeared in 15 games for New York. In New Jersey, the four-time Pro Bowler rushed for 214 yards on 67 carries. The year before in Minnesota, he rushed for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns.
If the Cowboys do indeed sign Cook, this move will be Jerry Jones’ number one move. Cook clearly looks ready to keep playing, and depending on how his visit goes, he could suit up for America’s Team.
It will take some time before he’s ready to play, but would he be worth it to Dallas? The Cowboys could sign him at a veteran minimum, so signing him won’t break the bank. Dallas certainly needs more help at the position, but is Cook the best option out there? Jones and Co. may think so, but many people question that interest — and understandably so.
