Phoenix-based supermarket chain Sprouts Farmers Market is opening two new Valley stores this year, expanding nationwide.
The two new Valley stores will be in Gilbert and Avondale, and both are scheduled to open in October. The Gilbert location, at the corner of Higley and Baseline Road, will open on October 4. The Avondale location, at the corner of 99th Avenue and McDowell Road, will open on October 25.
In the company’s quarterly conference call in July, Chief Financial Officer Curtis Valentine said Sprouts would open 35 new stores nationwide. Most of those openings, Valentine said, would occur in the fourth quarter, like the two in the Phoenix area.
In the call, Valentine said the company has faced timing challenges in opening new stores and that developers have slowed some of their projects due to high interest rates and construction costs, delaying some openings.
According to Chain Store Guide, which conducts studies and collects data on retailers, Sprouts has 34 locations in Maricopa and Pinal counties and 400 locations overall. In 2023, Sprouts generated revenue of $668 million, giving it a 3.4% market share in the Phoenix area.
Kroger Co., the parent company of Fry’s Food Stores, has the largest market share of any grocery retailer in the Phoenix area. It has 93 stores in Maricopa and Pinal counties and a 28.32% market share.
