YouTube has announced a new AI designed to help users recover accounts compromised by hackers. Dubbed the “Troubleshooting Tool,” the feature is available on Google’s support page and can be accessed through the YouTube Help Center. The chatbot will then ask the account holder a series of questions and help them secure their hacked Google credentials while also reverting any changes made to their accounts.
The Support Assistant is currently available in English and limited to a select number of creators, but Google has announced that it will gradually expand the feature to all YouTube creators.
The edge tested the bot and found that it offers a reasonable amount of protection, but still doesn’t bridge the gap between smaller account owners on YouTube and the platform’s support team. If issues arise, only large YouTube creators can speak directly to a representative, while smaller accounts must trawl through help pages.
In the past, there have been cases where even the YouTube accounts of major creators like Linus Tech Tips were hacked, while the hacked accounts of smaller affiliates took a lot of time to recover.
