Sabrina Carpenter releases Taste music video featuring Jenna Ortega on the 136th anniversary of Short n Sweet

Sabrina Carpenter celebrated the release of her new album on Friday, August 23rd, Short and sweetby sharing the music video for “Taste” with Jenna Ortega as her co-star.

The lyrics of “Taste” serve as a warning to the ex’s new lover, with Carpenter lightheartedly reminding a new girl on the scene that she was there first.

“Oh, I leave quite an impression, five feet to be exact,” sings Carpenter. “They wonder why half his clothes are gone, my body is where they are.”

The second verse expands on the concept, with Carpenter singing, “He pushes you down to the carpet, paints pictures with his tongue / He’s funny, now all his jokes come across differently, guess who he learned that from?”

Ortega plays Carpenter’s ex’s new lover in the horror movie-inspired music clip. The actress is caught in the shower with her ex, a reference to the famous horror scene from the 1960 film. Psycho.

Ahead of the music video, Carpenter, 25, revealed the meaning of the song, which states, “You just have to taste me when he kisses you,” warning the woman her ex has moved on with of her continued presence.

In an interview with Paper In the issue of the magazine, published on Wednesday, August 21, Carpenter addressed a question about whether she sometimes hesitates to write about certain topics given the scrutiny of her personal life, and shared the “scary truth” with the magazine.

“I will write every song,” she explained. “That doesn’t mean I’m going to release it, but I’m going to write it. I think the series of unfortunate events I’ve experienced in relationships are no secret to people who know me or think they know me.”

Carpenter also assured that her new album has something for every type of fan.

“If your favorite song is ‘Espresso,’ then you have another song you love. And if your favorite song is ‘Please, Please, Please,’ then you have another song you love. And if you hate both songs, then listen to a different album,” she joked. “I’m grateful for the people who tuned in, whether it was ten years ago, five years ago, yesterday or tomorrow, two years from now. There are definitely some people who still haven’t tuned in. I plan to tune them in.”

Short and sweet has already produced two major hits with the singles “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please.” The latter became Carpenter’s first number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June, while the former peaked at number 3.

Carpenter’s music video for “Please, Please, Please” in June featured another A-list celebrity: her boyfriend, Barry KeoghanThe couple kept their appearance in the project secret until its release. The 31-year-old actor plays Carpenter’s problematic lover.

“He loved the song. He’s obsessed with the lyrics and I’m so grateful for that,” Carpenter said diversity earlier this month. “I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So seeing him on screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and more special.”
