When Kerry led Washington through the closing night of the Democratic Party Convention on Thursday, she was also present as a guest of the President.

The Emmy award winner was back on stage with her scandal Co-star Tony Goldwyn wanted to create a viral moment in honor of Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris in front of thousands of supporters in attendance.

“Just like Michelle Obama told us, let’s do something. Let’s make a video. Everybody get your phones out… we’re going to capture a moment,” Washington said. “Can somebody bring me my phone? I want to capture this historic moment and share it with the people we love.”

The audience erupted in cheers as Goldwyn ran onto the stage with Washington’s phone in hand. She told everyone to record a video as they recited Harris’s slogan together. “When we fight,” the actors chanted, to which the crowd responded, “We win!”

“Are you ready for Kamala Harris to win?” Washington added to applause. “Good, because if Kamala wins, America wins. We did it! ‘We did it, Joe.’ Thanks, Tony.”

Then there was a nice exchange when Goldwyn asked if he should stay on stage with her. “No, you must go,” Washington said as he said goodbye to the audience. “Tony Goldwyn, ladies and gentlemen!”

Washington had previously shared a selfie with Goldwyn from the DNC podium. “Giving the people what they want…” she wrote.

Goldwyn also shared a snap of Washington jokingly sticking her finger up his nose and wrote, “Serious business is happening at the #DNCChicago with @kerrywashington!!!”

Washington played the role of crisis management expert Olivia Pope in the Shondaland series, which ran for seven seasons on ABC from 2012 to 2018. Goldwyn played her client and lover, President Fitzgerald Grant III. The series was partly inspired by Judy Smith, the press secretary for former President George HW Bush’s administration, who served as co-executive producer of the series.
