In most parts of the country, summer vacation is over or just about to end. The buses are leaving, the children are back in the classroom, and the fights at the bus stop have started again.
A fight between two high school students at a Florida bus stop took a turn for the worse when the mother of one of the girls intervened. She wasn’t there to break up the fight, she was there to intervene if necessary.
Kathryn Stephanopoulos, 34, was apparently at home that afternoon and didn’t know what better to do. Her daughter told her about the fight and she showed up ready for action.
The two high school students, who were reportedly once friends, had agreed to settle a summer dispute when they got off the bus on August 14. Mom stood in the background and watched the two girls argue.
When things got physical, the mother took action and started wrestling with the girl, who was fighting with her daughter. She eventually got the girl in a headlock and the two fell to the sidewalk.
Fists continue to fly when a male student intervenes and tries to separate the mother from her daughter’s former friend. A fight eventually breaks out between him and the daughter.
Two fights take place and there is a lot more action to follow. Fists fly a few more times before everyone has had enough and mother and daughter get in their car and drive away.
Mama was eventually arrested for her role in the bus stop brawl
That was the end of the fight, but not the end of the story. The fight sparked an investigation that led to Stephanopolous’ arrest, according to FOX 35. She was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bail.
The affidavit states: “It is of note that Kathryn expressed her regret and embarrassment about the entire incident.”
Sheriff Rick Staly intervened in the altercation. According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, he said, “Instead of de-escalating the situation, a mother intervened in the fight, setting a bad example for her child and the people at the bus stop.”
“Her behavior certainly won’t make her Mother of the Year. Parents need to set a good example and not be part of the problem. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt, but now a mother faces serious charges for losing control of her temper.”
I don’t know who is saying that. Is he on the panel that decides who gets to be Mother of the Year? If not, he shouldn’t be going around making comments like that.
Give us the facts, Rick. Who will or will not be Mother of the Year is not one of those facts.
