A new video shows a man suffering from bleeding from his head following a hair transplant being arrested along with his wife after they refused to disembark a plane in Miami on Tuesday.
Eugenio Hernandez boarded the American Airlines flight to Las Vegas with a bleeding forehead and bandages. He said his doctor had cleared him to fly and he had the appropriate paperwork, but flight attendants told him to leave the plane after seeing his bloody head.
The couple declined.
In the new video, Hernandez is seen arguing with authorities, again referring to a document granting him permission to fly, issued by the Care4Hair clinic that he says performed the procedure.
The officer says the pilot still doesn’t want him on board.
“My question is: Are you coming with me now so the flight can take off?” asks the officer.
When Hernandez tries to contradict the officer, the officer orders him to leave the plane.
Later, a video shows Hernandez leaving the gate in handcuffs.
Hernandez described what happened when he was released from prison Tuesday night.
A man suffering from bleeding from his head after a hair transplant was arrested along with his wife after they refused to get off a plane in Miami, NBC6’s Lorena Inclán reports.
“I’m in a lot of pain. I have pain here and pain here in my head,” he said.
Hernandez said he flew from Las Vegas to Miami to undergo hair transplant and liposuction, but when he and his wife were on the flight back home, passengers alerted flight crew that he was bleeding and concerned about his health.
“You have to go out because someone doesn’t like what you have on your head,” Hernandez said he was told.
Hernandez provided NBC6 with a letter from his doctor stating that he was cleared to fly and could return to work without restrictions.
The flight attendant told him she didn’t care and the situation escalated.
“She told me to either get out or call the police. I said call the police because this is unfair. I paid for my flight. I don’t have anything illegal in my bag. Everything is fine,” Hernandez said.
His wife Yusleydis Loyola, who has also undergone plastic surgery, went live on TikTok with thousands watching.
According to police, the couple was arrested because they refused to comply with the request despite repeated warnings.
“All of this could have been avoided if they had simply followed the officers’ instructions or requests to exit the aircraft,” said Argemis Colomé, spokesman for the Miami-Dade County police.
A man got out of jail after he and his wife were arrested for refusing to leave a plane when flight attendants asked him to do so for health reasons, NBC6’s Kim Wynne reports.
The couple hired attorney Michael Iglesia to fight the charges.
“We believe they were clearly discriminated against based on their appearance after a necessary medical procedure,” he said. “They showed American this clearance… They got through security without any problems, American then let them on the plane and even gave them priority boarding to help them and make it more comfortable. It was only when other passengers complained about their appearance that they were asked to leave the plane.”
Care4Hair declined to comment to our sister station Telemundo 51, but said they posted a video on Instagram explaining that patients cannot fly the same day they have a hair transplant. However, Hernandez’s paper is dated and signed the day of his surgery.
The couple were charged with trespassing and resisting state authority.
American Airlines said in a statement: “During boarding of American Airlines flight 1858 on August 19, flying from Miami (MIA) to Las Vegas (LAS), two passengers behaved disruptively and disobeyed crew instructions. Police responded and removed both passengers from the aircraft. We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our passengers for the inconvenience.”
