A golden retriever named Sammie has been melting hearts on social media after her owner shared a clip of her enjoying her early birthday present: a giant water slide he put up in her yard.
The viral video, shared on TikTok on Sunday under the username @lifewithgoldens7, shows the pup having the time of his life as he jumps up and down the slide, splashing water everywhere. But she wasn’t the only one; her owner also seemed to be having a lot of fun as she slid and splashed in the water with Sammie.
“One month before my dog’s birthday… so I bought her a water slide,” the clip’s text reads, followed by a caption that adds, “Happy birthday in advance, Sammie.”
Most Golden Retrievers, like Sammie, love water and never seem to get enough of it. However, not all dogs like water. Some are afraid to even go near it.
Dog health experts at Rover say if your dog has only been exposed to water during bath time, he may not like water in other situations. Additionally, if he has never seen anything larger than a tub, the unfamiliar situation of large amounts of water may be overwhelming.
However, your dog’s aversion to water could also simply be part of his personality. “Some dogs are more fearful, period, and others are not inclined to take risks, like diving into a suspicious new substance,” the pet resource website added.
But what can you do to help your puppy overcome this fear? The first step is to take it slow and not force it on your dog. You can bribe your pet with treats. It is important to start in calm water so that your dog is less afraid.

The video quickly went viral on social media, attracting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 3 million views and more than 240,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Norma5430, commented: “The water slide is for who?”
