90-year-old Hong Kong man injured while trying to stop his Mercedes from rolling back into his house

He said the car came to a stop after crashing into the surrounding wall of the house. There were no tenants in the house at the time.

The three by six meter wall was damaged in the incident, the spokesman said.

The driver, who passed a breathalyzer test, was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment.

“Initial investigations indicate that the driver forgot to apply the handbrake when leaving the vehicle,” the spokesman said.

A 65-year-old taxi driver also escaped unhurt when his taxi crashed into a flowerbed and hit a tree near Choi Hung Estate on Prince Edward Road East at around 6:49 a.m.

The spokesman said the taxi driver claimed he lost control of his vehicle when he saw a black shadow and drifted to the left.

Officers from the Kowloon East Traffic Unit are investigating the case.

According to recent police figures, the number of people killed or seriously injured in road accidents across the city fell by 39.4 percent to 478 in the first seven months of this year, compared to 790 in the same period in 2023.
