Prayers for reparation are a time-honored Catholic tradition. They enable us to share in Christ’s redemptive suffering on the cross.
As the Democratic National Convention draws to a close tonight, Christians across America are stunned by the almost manic celebration of abortion and mutilation.
Over 20 unborn children died in Planned Parenthood’s “free chemical abortion van.” An unconfirmed number of men underwent free vasectomies in the same van. Men and women dressed as abortion drugs danced in the street.
And the only Catholic prelate who was asked to invoke God’s help for the Democratic Party did not even mention the name of Jesus Christ.
What can we do in the face of so much evil? We can make amends through prayer, fasting and sacrifice.
Here are some prayers for reparation that Catholics have said throughout the centuries.
The Fatima Prayers
In 1917, the Angel of Portugal appeared to three shepherd children – Saints Francisco and Jacinta Marto and Venerable Lucia – to prepare them for the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. He taught them several prayers for the atone-ment of their sins.
These three prayers are short, easy to remember and can be said at any time of the day.
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and guide all souls to heaven, especially those who most need your mercy.
My God, I believe in you, I worship you, I trust you and I love you! I ask forgiveness for all those who do not believe in you, do not worship you, do not trust you and do not love you.
Most Holy Trinity, I adore you! My God, my God, I love you in the Most Holy Sacrament.
The Rosary
The Rosary, given by Our Lady to Saint Dominic, is one of our most powerful spiritual weapons. In every apparition recognized by the Church, Mary has asked the faithful to pray it often to atone for the sins of the world.
If you haven’t made it a part of your daily prayer life, now is a good time to do so.
The Dominicans continue to be the world’s leading promoters of the Rosary. Click here to learn more about their upcoming pilgrimage and praying the Rosary!
The Saint Michael Prayer
Sometime between 1884 and 1886, Pope Leo XIII had a vision of demonic spirits within the Church. Soon after, he composed the Michael Prayer and asked the faithful to pray it after every silent Mass.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and traps of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
And you, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God,
cast Satan and all evil spirits into hell,
who roam the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: hear us, Lord.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: Lord, have mercy on us.
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, You preferred to expose Yourself to all the insults of the wicked rather than withdraw Your Holy Body from our churches. Grant us the grace to lament with true bitterness of heart the injuries and sacrileges committed against You, and to repair, as far as it is in our power, with sincere love, the many insults and contempts You have suffered and still suffer in this ineffable mystery. You who live and reign with God in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
