After announcing his retirement on Wednesday, former Cincinnati Reds star player Joey Votto was congratulated by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the Reds and Blue Jays, Bally Sports Ohio sportscasters and many others.
But what about the owner of the only Twitter/X account that Votto follows?
Former Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco, now an assistant coach for the Pitt baseball team, tweeted the following: “As the only person he follows here at @JoeyVotto, I speak for everyone when I congratulate him. Very few baseball players have had as much class, respect and success as you. I’ll be retweeting a few thanks and congratulations in the next hour or two to fill his empty timeline with love.”
Mesoraco’s biography states, among other things: “The only person Joey follows on Twitter.”
Mesoraco was a first-round draft pick of the Reds in 2007 and had a .234 batting average with 48 home runs for Cincinnati from 2011 to 2018. An All-Star in 2014, the Reds traded Mesoraco to the New York Mets in May 2018 for pitcher Matt Harvey.
