The event, Trump’s first outdoor rally since the shooting incident at his campaign rally in Pennsylvania last month, took a tense turn when the former president noticed a commotion in the crowd. “What’s going on?” Trump asked in a worried voice before amplifying his request into the microphone: “A doctor, please!”
As the sweltering heat smothered the crowd – many of whom had waited days to attend the event – Trump turned his attention, clearly compassionate, to the area where the visitor was being cared for. “It’s very hot here,” he noted, acknowledging the difficult conditions. “Take your time, doctor, take your time, thank you!”
In a show of solidarity, Trump joined the crowd in applause before stepping back from his bulletproof podium, flanked by Secret Service agents. He approached the area where the person was being cared for, hugged him and offered words of reassurance before returning to the podium to chants of “We love Trump.”
Newsweek quoted the Secret Service as saying the incident was heat-related and the person was immediately treated by paramedics. The spokesperson assured that the participant was “fine” following the incident.
This episode follows a tragic incident at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire, leaving one dead and injuring Trump and others. The gunman was killed by a sniper and the FBI is investigating the shooting as an attempted murder.
Trump’s rally in North Carolina, held at the North Carolina Aviation Museum & Hall of Fame, was a major event in a crucial swing state. His vice presidential running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, spoke at the rally. Recent polls show North Carolina to be a hotly contested state in the 2024 presidential race. Just days earlier, Vice President Kamala Harris was also campaigning in the state.
As a show of support, the Texas Republican Party praised Trump’s quick response and emphasized his concern for the well-being of his supporters. “Trump just stopped his entire rally to make sure one of the people in the audience was OK after there was a shout for a doctor in the crowd. What a really good guy,” the Texas Republican Party commented on social media.
