A second person has been charged in connection with an hours-long search and standoff with a Chicago murder suspect in the suburb of Lake Barrington on Tuesday.
Luisa Sanchez, 22, of Cary, is accused of obstruction of justice, aiding and abetting an escape and illegal possession of a firearm.
She is accused of fleeing from a crash just before noon that sparked the police chase that ended with the arrest of 38-year-old Osceola Little near U.S. 14 and Pepper Road in Lake Barrington. Little was wanted in connection with a murder in West Garfield Park late Monday.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Sanchez was found at a gas station near U.S. 14 and Kelsey Road around 2:10 p.m. She is accused of taking Little’s gun – which appears to be the same one used in Monday’s killing – and hiding it in the gas station’s restroom.
Little is charged with aggravated illegal possession of a weapon by a felon. Additional charges are likely to be filed against him in Lake County and Cook County, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
He surrendered to officers and was arrested around 8:15 p.m. after barricading himself inside an industrial building in the 21900 block of Pepper Road, the sheriff’s office said.
The search and rescue operation sent more than two dozen police officers to the area, and some nearby schools were cordoned off.
Arrest warrants were issued against Little and Sanchez pending a detention hearing on Thursday.
Late Monday night, Chicago police responded to a gunshot alarm in West Garfield Park and found 33-year-old Robert Little shot multiple times in the face and arms, the Cook County coroner’s office and police said. Little was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital around 11 p.m.
