We’re getting a theme park management sim based on the 27-year-old black comedy Mars Attacks. This time it’s called Mars Attracts and will be released on Steam Early Access next year.
Revealed with a trailer at the Future Games Show at Gamescom, presented by Sid Meier’s Civilization® VII, we start with several shots of guys in different time periods, from Rome to the Wild West. Although they seem random at first, what ties them all together is the fact that they’re on display in a theme park just for the sake of some pretty familiar looking aliens. The same ghouls you see in Tim Burton’s black comedy Mars Attacks. This time, the focus of a game called Mars Attracts.
Like many theme park simulations, you want to build a thriving business by building rides, hiring and training staff, and meeting guest needs while staying within budget. Aside from the fact that the clientele are the inhabitants of Mars, what makes this game special is that the main attraction is the people you kidnap and research from different historical eras. Just find a balance between keeping your Martian guests attractive and keeping your Earthlings happy so they don’t try to escape.
In case you missed it, Mars Attacks hit theaters in 1997 and is packed with top-notch talent, from Jack Nicholson and Danny Devito to Jack Black and Tom Jones. In the black comedy, aliens who “come in peace” land on Earth and are initially peacefully welcomed by the U.S. as foreign dignitaries before everything goes wrong and a brawl breaks out.
Things will probably be a little better for the aliens in Mars Attracts, which will be released in Early Access in 2025.
