JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee. – The Eastern Kentucky University football program lost to East Tennessee State 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
First semester Ana Manning led EKU (0-2) with three shot attempts in Sunday’s game. Through the first two games of the 2024 season, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native leads the program with five shot attempts, four of them on goal.
Fellow student Ella Grode finished the game with two shots on goal.
The Colonels used two goalies in Sunday’s game, including a senior Marah Krick who led with seven saves in the first half, just one shy of her personal best.
First semester Ruby Morgan made her college debut in the second half of Sunday’s game and made two saves and allowed zero goals despite facing 13 shots.
ETSU (1-1) took the lead in the 34th minute when Grace Eatz hit the top of the net with her right foot after a free kick from over 9 meters.
In the final 11 minutes of the half, the Colonels were unable to respond as heavy rain fell on the field, followed by a 45-minute interruption due to lightning strikes that extended the halftime break.
After the delay, EKU responded in the second half, doubling its shots on goal from the first half. Despite the extra effort, the Colonels were unable to equalize and end Sunday’s game with a 1-0 tie.
EKU will return home for its next three games, beginning with regional opponent Morehead State on Thursday, August 22 at 4 p.m. EST. The game is free to the public, with gates opening one hour and 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
