KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – A string of armed robberies in Kansas City over the summer has come to an end. The two men suspected of being responsible have been arrested and charged.
The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office in Missouri announced Sunday, August 18, that Richard Canton, 22, and Dimitri McGill, 19, both of Kansas City, have been charged with three counts of first-degree robbery and three counts of armed criminal action, while McGill faces one count each of simple assault.
Investigators claimed Canton was responsible for three armed robberies of local businesses – on August 13, 15 and 16. McGill, on the other hand, was only present at the August 16 robbery.
Court documents filed over the weekend show that Kansas City, Missouri police were called to a drugstore chain on Friday because of reports of a robbery.
When officers arrived, they found a store clerk who reported that a man, later identified as McGill, threatened her at gunpoint and demanded money from the register. She also saw Canton walking around the store and then leaving with McGill.
Investigators said they were able to identify Canton based on the clothing he was wearing in surveillance footage.
In addition, investigators said they searched the home of one of Canton’s accomplices and found evidence linking the pair to additional robberies, but those still need to be investigated further.
Prosecutors concluded that they had requested a $200,000 cash bond for Canton and a $100,000 cash bond for McGill.
