COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three Mountain West football players are among 62 student-athletes shortlisted for the 2024 Golden Arm Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc., along with primary sponsor AO Smith Corporation, announced today. The award recognizes the best quarterback in the senior or high school graduating class each year.
Sophomore at Colorado State Brayden Fowler-NicolosiFresno State Junior Mikey Keene and Hawaii Senior Brayden Schager represent the Mountain West on the watch list.
The three MW players on the watch list are ranked fifth in the FBS, with only the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC being better.
The preseason watch list, semifinalists, finalists and award winners are selected by the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers and former players.
The Golden Arm Award’s namesake has a storied history. Johnny Unitas was an 18-year NFL veteran who played his college career at the University of Louisville before joining the Baltimore Colts in 1958. His career passing numbers include 2,830 completed passes for 40,239 yards, 290 touchdowns, and one touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games.
This year’s recipient will receive the Golden Arm Award trophy on Friday, December 6, at the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.
