What the hell?! A video game collector from Saudi Arabia has set a Guinness World Record for the most game consoles connected to a single television. Ibrahim Al-Nasser managed to connect 444 different devices to his set using a series of switches and converters. I remember the frustration I got as a kid having to swap cables when I only had a few consoles.
Al-Nasser had the same problem, only on a much larger scale. His elaborate solution involves more than 30 RCA switchers and over a dozen HDMI switchers to connect consoles spanning more than four decades.
Without a cheat sheet, it would be nearly impossible to keep track of which console is plugged into where, so he created a spreadsheet that tells him exactly which switches to activate to access a specific console.
Al-Nasser spent a lot of time getting the wiring perfect, and it shows. There are barely any cables visible, resulting in a museum-quality presentation that rivals even the best video game rooms.
The collection includes just about every major console you can think of, and hundreds of other obscure systems you’ve probably never heard of. All the heavyweights are there, including modern devices like the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam Deck, as well as retro favorites like the original PlayStation, Nintendo 64 (with floppy disk drive), and Sega Dreamcast, to name a few.
As for Al-Nasser’s absolute favorite console, it’s the venerable Sega Genesis. This 16-bit console launched in Japan in 1988 as the Mega Drive and made its way to North America a year later as the Genesis. It went up against the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and put up a tough fight. Sega’s lineup included some very impressive titles, including Disney’s Aladdin and entries in the Mortal Kombat and Sonic the Hedgehog series.
