State pensioners will wake up this winter with a £150 bonus in the form of a credit on their energy account, it has been revealed. Under the new Labour Party government, state pensioners are set to benefit from the return of the £150 Warm Home Discount.
The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a one-off £150 discount on your energy bill. If you’re eligible, your energy supplier will apply the discount to your bill. The money won’t be paid to you. You’ll usually get the discount automatically if you’re eligible.
You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier supplies you with both gas and electricity and you are eligible. Contact your supplier to find out. If you live in England and Wales, you qualify if you either Guarantee credit element of the pension loan or have a low income and have high energy costs.

You are eligible for the rebate if, on 13 August 2023, all of the following apply: your energy supplier is part of the scheme, your name (or that of your partner) is on the electricity bill and you or your partner are receiving the guarantee credit portion of the pension credit (even if you are also receiving a savings credit).
In England and Wales this is called ‘Core Group 1’. In Scotland it is the ‘Core Group’. If you do not receive the guaranteed credit portion of Pension Credit, you may still be eligible in England and Wales if you are on a low income.
If you are eligible, your energy supplier will apply the discount to your bill. The money will not be paid out to you. If you do not receive the guaranteed credit portion of Pension Credit, you may still be eligible if your energy supplier participates in this scheme, you (or your partner) receive certain income-related benefits or tax credits and your property has a high energy cost value due to its characteristics.
In addition, your name (or that of your partner) must appear on the electricity bill. This is known as belonging to “Core Group 2”.
