Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor launches to connect the Legends to independence

Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor launches to connect the Legends to independence

It happens. On Tuesday, the managers of KS + MO announced the launch of their joint venture: the Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor. That’s quite a chunk — but what is it?

Essentially, this project will connect the 24-mile stretch between Independence, Sugar Creek, KCK and the Legends Outlets with clean transportation options such as electric buses and bike and pedestrian paths.

But the vision goes beyond simply redesigning traffic. The goals of the new corridor also include:

  • Promoting energy-efficient housing
  • Nationwide broadband expansion
  • Employee training for green stormwater infrastructure

The entire earthworks for the corridor are to be three phases.

Phase one – Positioning | 2024-2025

This phase, which has just started, serves to develop concepts by gathering community input and securing additional investors.

Phase two – acceleration | 2025-2026

Then we will see some changes as the team focuses more on local projects.

Phase three – Demonstration | 2026-2027

Let’s show the world what KC can doDuring this phase, the team will use the corridor as a case study and model what the future of the United States might look like.

About 90,000 people currently live along the 24-mile stretch, and officials hope the Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor will improve their lives holistically — such as better access to child care, the ability to continue working from home — while also making commutes in KC more environmentally friendly.
