In an environment of growing violence against medical personnel, it is women who are most at risk. • Since 2022, the number of crimes against women has increased by 4%.of which over 20% involve rape and assault. • In 2022, nearly 90 rapes were reported per day in India. *Sources include National Crime Records Bureau report 2022.’

The ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ actress also urged those in power to make women’s safety a top priority, “Despite the many crimes and all the women who have suffered, there is no real possibility or hope of things changing. We could not save this young woman, but we can try to prevent something like this from happening again. My request to those in power is: • FOCUS on women’s safety. • FOCUS on creating safe spaces and improving all means of protection. • FOCUS on the why. It is clear that there is something fundamentally wrong with the way our society currently functions. These repeated inhumane acts against women prove that something is wrong at the root and unless we dig deep and eradicate the cause, nothing will change!”
