Oracle selects AT&T to connect its enterprise IoT application services

Oracle is integrating AT&T’s cellular IoT connectivity and network APIs into its Enterprise Communications Platform (ECP), it said. The move means Oracle’s enterprise customers will no longer have to manage complex integrations and network contracts when deploying IoT device fleets. These elements are now integrated into Oracle’s cloud-based ECP offering, enabling an “all-in-one platform,” it said.

The ECP offering, which runs on the company’s hosted Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) service, includes a range of industrial cloud applications that can now be easily combined with data from AT&T-connected IoT devices. The service is available in all OCI regions of the US. The integration extends to the US First Responder Network (FirstNet), which is built on AT&T’s infrastructure and serves as the foundation for Oracle’s own suite of public safety solutions.

Oracle said FirstNet and ECP are the “foundation” for this and will help “enable secure communications that enable critical components such as dispatch centers and near real-time camera feeds for first responders actively involved in incidents.” Otherwise, Oracle touts “innovation and new services” virtually everywhere (“from consumers to industrial enterprises”) on its enterprise platform for AT&T-connected IoT solutions.

Examples given included “turnkey, communications-enabled restaurant operations, automated power grid management, or advanced telemedicine capabilities.” It said: “ECP delivers IoT connectivity and near real-time communications for Oracle’s suite of industry cloud applications. With built-in capabilities such as IoT edge application management, this all-in-one offering… provides the connectivity and data intelligence needed to deliver critical new services.”

Andrew Morawski, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Oracle Communications, said: “Our mission has always been to improve the way the world communicates, and with ECP, supported by AT&T and FirstNet, we are a big step closer to that vision. Together, we can help companies across all industries realize the full potential of 5G by developing a new generation of vertical applications that offer endless opportunities for innovation.”

Sarita Rao, senior vice president of partner solutions at AT&T, said, “AT&T is committed to developing solutions with its ecosystem partners that integrate programmable connectivity, whether using IoT APIs or network APIs. By working with Oracle, we are achieving tighter integration between network and application, increasing performance and reliability while eliminating integration requirements and separate contracting. This is co-creation at its best.”
