Reginald Rea (Reg) Walters, 92, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia.
Born in Washington, D.C., he moved to Falls Church, Virginia, where he met and married Patricia Wadlow. They were married for 64 years. Reg graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in architecture in 1953. He received his master’s degree in urban planning from Georgia Tech in 1956. Reg and Pat moved to Savannah, where they had two daughters, Cheryl Lynn and Terri Rae. In 1959, they moved to Miami, where Reg worked for the Metropolitan Dade County Planning Department and became its director. He retired in 1992 after 33 years of service. Reg was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for over 65 years, teaching at West Flagler Park Baptist Church in Miami, Florida, and Skidaway Island Baptist Church, where he was a long-time member of the Joy Sunday School Class.
He was predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Edith Walters. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Rogers of Brooklet and his daughter, Terri (Jack) of Hinesville, GA, and a brother, Neal (Betty) Walters of Durham, NC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Skidaway Island Baptist Church.
A funeral service in his honor will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Skidaway Island Baptist Church, 2 Westridge Road, Savannah, GA 31411.
