Pixel 9 is the first Google phone to launch without the latest version of Android

Google has just unveiled its latest Pixel 9 series at the Made by Google event. This time, the tech giant is changing things up by launching not just two, but four new phones: the Pixels 9, Pixel 9 ProPixel 9 Pro XL and the second generation foldable book Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

But that’s not all that’s different. For the first time, Google is releasing its new Pixel series with last year’s Android 14 instead of the latest version, Android 15. Curious why?

Well, it seems as if Android15 is simply not ready for prime time yet. Google has not given a clear reason for the decision, but it is likely related to the Pixel’s earlier launch this year (the Pixel series usually debuts in October). Still, it is puzzling why the company did not simply wait until Android15 was ready to go, probably in September.

That is, the Pixels 9 Series is expected Android15 not long after the launch, probably in October. Nevertheless, with the promise of seven years of updates, the launch of the Pixels 9 Series with Android14 now means it will miss the last Android update it could have gotten if Google had just waited Android15 to be ready.

To ensure that users are not disappointed, Google is offering a great deal for all those who Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Proor the Pixel 9 Pro Fold – a free year of the Google One AI Premium plan.
