The Bulloch County Development Authority, the Bryan County Development Authority, the Savannah Harbor-Interstate 16 Corridor Joint Development Authority and Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America will each contribute $250,000.
Today, the Bryan County Development Authority Board of Directors released $250,000 to the Well Mitigation Fund. In addition, Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) announced that they will also contribute $250,000 to the fund, bringing the total fund to $1 million.
The Bulloch County Development Authority and the Savannah Harbor-Interstate 16 Corridor Joint Development Authority (Savannah JDA) each approved $250,000 earlier this summer.
The fund was established to address any potential impacts to existing groundwater wells in Florida within five miles of the proposed well sites. The fund is expected to have sufficient resources to provide remediation to anyone who may be impacted by the wells.
Bryan County, which will manage the fund on behalf of both counties, will engage a consultant with experience in developing well mitigation plans to prepare policies, grant guidelines, procedures and public information documents. This process and the mitigation policy adopted by both counties should be completed by the end of this year.
“I want to personally thank State Senator Billy Hickman for helping us get this fund off the ground,” said Carter Infinger, chairman of the Savannah JDA.
