Ogeechee Technical College recently launched its Cybersecurity Club, whose goal is to promote interest and awareness of cybersecurity and improve skills development in the field through training, competitions and community educational initiatives.
Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) has established a Cybersecurity Club to encourage an active interest in cybersecurity and to promote cybersecurity awareness, education, and skills development among its members and the college community.
“Myself and our students are excited to embark on this journey and develop our cybersecurity skills,” said Terry Hand, cybersecurity instructor at OTC. “We will be taking continuing education training and participating in advanced cybersecurity capture-the-flag competitions. We will also be helping to raise public awareness about cybersecurity.”
The club held its first meeting in mid-June and also aims to provide a platform for collaboration, networking and support for individual and team competitive sports experiences among students. To achieve this goal, active club members will seek to improve their own cyber skills proficiency by participating in Capture the Flag (CTF) events, penetration testing labs, cyber ranges, challenges, field trips, guest speakers and seminars.
As an additional measure, the club will help students learn about career opportunities in cybersecurity and assist them with job placement.
